First-Timer’s Guide to Indoor Tanning in Hong Kong

If you are booking your first indoor tanning session in Hong Kong, the process should feel simple, calm, and well guided. This guide explains how to prepare, what happens during a session, and how to care for your skin afterwards.

What indoor tanning can help with

Indoor tanning gives you a controlled way to build or maintain a bronze tone, especially when Hong Kong weather is humid, rainy, or unpredictable. At Dream Tanning, our team helps you choose a sensible starting time based on your skin tone, tanning history, and goal.

Before your first session

  • Exfoliate gently 24 hours before your appointment so your tan develops more evenly.
  • Keep your skin moisturised in the days before your visit, but avoid heavy lotion, perfume, deodorant, or makeup right before tanning.
  • Do not tan if your skin is sunburned, irritated, peeling, or recently treated with strong exfoliating products.
  • Tell our team if you use medication or skincare that can increase UV sensitivity.

How long should a beginner tan?

Most first-time guests should start short. Fair or UV-sensitive skin may begin around 3 to 5 minutes, while skin that tans more easily may start slightly longer. The safest approach is to build gradually instead of trying to get a deep tan in one visit.

What to expect at Dream Tanning

Our team will explain the machine, session time, room setup, and protective eyewear before you begin. Always wear the provided eye protection and follow the recommended timing. If your skin feels hot, uncomfortable, or unusually sensitive, stop and speak to our staff.

Aftercare tips

  • Moisturise daily to help your colour fade evenly.
  • Avoid harsh exfoliation immediately after your session.
  • Drink water and give your skin time to settle before your next visit.
  • Use sunscreen outdoors. A tan is not a replacement for sun protection.
